Agritourism – activities that bring visitors to a farm or ranch – is seen more often today than ever before. Types of agritourism operations vary: corn mazes, pumpkin patches, pick your own operations, dude ranches, and more.
Almost 30 million children visit farms and ranches each year. Most visitors are unfamiliar with the agricultural environment – and the hazards found there.Owners need to ensure the safety and health of all guests visiting their operations
The National Children’s Center, working with a broad group of stakeholders, has developed health and safety guidelines and easy-to-use checklists specific to children to help agritourism operators manage health and safety on the farm.
The Integrating Safety into Agritourism website features interactive “walkthroughs” to help farmers identify safety and health issues, printable checklists to “walk through” their own operation and identify safety concerns and 150 free resources, such as signs and policies, that can be used to address these safety concerns.
